As a Muslim reader and a fan of fantasy/science fiction, I am naturally drawn to novels such as Blood of the Levant. It's so refreshing to see a strong Muslim character as the main protagonist of the story, a hero with a tragic past who one can empathize with. As you read the tale, Omar's enemies will become your enemies, and Omar's successes will be something that you too will be able to celebrate. Aside from his enhanced strength, I found Omar's sheer determination, both as a boy and a mature adult to be one of the main draws of the story. The visions that Omar has throughout the story are intriguing. So many questions are left unanswered at the end of the novel, which I am assuming will be addressed in the next book in the series! Overall, Blood of the Levant presents an amazing story with writing that is absolutely stellar!! I wish there were more books like this when I was younger. Beautiful Science Fiction Novella Madeehah Reza's Orphan Plant is a beautiful science fiction novella about a girl named Elif who was assigned to be the warden of the planet Maoira-I. The story starts very upbeat. We see a heartwarming relationship between Elif and VASH, her AI companion. This is despite the fact that in the back of her mind, Elif knows that VASH is not real. Elif adjusts well to life on the planet, making important discoveries and progress with her intelligence and resilience shining through.  Elif's role gives her a sense of purpose as well as a confident and sometimes even defiant demeanor. As the novel progresses, we learn that there is a hidden truth that has thus far eluded our protagonist. Things were not quite what they appeared to be. Why write Islamic fiction?

What's the point of writing Islamic fiction? Should we bother spending so much time and effort on such an endeavor when the Ummah could be served better through education, dawah, social justice advocacy, and charity work?
